UP ADDS TRANSPORTATION LOGISTICS PRODUCTS, SELLS LAND
Union Pacific Distribution Services, a subsidiary of Union Pacific Railroad, has added a series of rail-oriented information and logistics products called RailSource Logistics.
The Omaha, Neb.-based company also said Friday it has sold $185 million worth of land, track, operating rights and facilities to the Utah Transit Authority.
RailSource Logistics products are designed to manage customer interline rail carload and multimodal shipments and improve asset management. They will manage rail shipments throughout North America.
RailSource Logistics is offered by personnel with extensive background in rail operations and marketing, the company said. The rail-based logistics programs are designed in conjunction with Class I railroads, short lines and Mexican carriers simplify rail management by reducing administrative complexity and improving operational efficiently, UP said.
RailSource plans to expand its portfolio to include multimodal service offerings.
Meanwhile the railroad has sold about 175 miles of track connecting the Utah cities of Brigham City and Payson. UP also sold operating rights for another 20 miles of track, as well as land for the state of Utah to build new rail lines.
The sale will add about $88 million to UP's after-tax income in the third quarter.
