UP EARNINGS RISE 26 PERCENT
Union Pacific Corp., based in Omaha, Neb., said net income in the second quarter increased 26 percent to $244 million, or $.96 per diluted share.
Dick Davidson, chairman and chief executive officer, said the results “show that our operational improvements are making a difference for our customers.”
UP’s operating income for the second quarter totaled $526 million, up 23 percent over 1999. Fuel prices for the railroad increased 50 percent over last year.
