UP to spend $109m on Iowa rail improvements

The railroad will invest $4.2 billion across its network this year for track maintenance, signal systems and road and bridge repairs.

Union Pacific expects to invest more than $109 million in 2015 to improve its rail lines running through Iowa.
Specifically, the railroad will invest $105 million for track maintenance, $1.5 million on signal systems, and $2.8 million to maintain bridges throughout the Midwest state.
Union Pacific plans to spend $4.2 billion across its network this year, following investments totaling more than $31 billion from 2005-2014. “These investments contributed to a 38 percent decrease in derailments over the last 10 years,” the railroad said.
