UPS CHIEF JOINS PRESIDENTIAL BOARD

President Bush named Michael Eskew, chairman and chief executive officer of United Parcel Service Inc., to the President's Export Council.

Eskew was one of 27 business people appointed to the select advisory committee.

'UPS supports the removal of international trade barriers through free trade initiatives,' Eskew said in a statement.

The Export Council advises the president on government policies and programs that affect U.S. trade and provides a forum for the public and private sectors to discuss trade-related problems.

UPS hailed the appointment as recognition of the importance of the express delivery industry to the nation's economy and in facilitating global trade. 'For every 40 new international packages that we deliver each day, one UPS job will be created in the U.S.,' Eskew said.
