UPS ENTERS INTO JOINT VENTURE TO EXPAND INDIA SERVICE
United Parcel Service has formed a joint venture with Jetair Ltd., to provide international express document and package delivery services in India.
The new company, to be called UPS Jetair Express Private Ltd., will be based in Mumbai and is expected to being operations in early 2001. The company plans to establish facilities in Mumbai, Delhi, Bangalore and Madras.
To improve service to the expanding market, UPS plans to increase flights to Mumbai before the end of the year. UPS has operated five 767 flights a week out of Mumbai, connecting with UPS's Asia Pacific hub in Taipei and Europe hub in Cologne.
