UPS INCREASES SHIPPING RATES FOR 2003

United Parcel Service, the Atlanta-based transportation and logistics service provider, announced on Friday a series of rate increases for shipping packages, effective Jan. 6, 2003.

UPS Next Day Air will increase 3.2 percent, and UPS Worldwide Express by 2.9 percent.

Rates for UPS commercial ground services will increase 3.9 percent, with the residential surcharge going from $1.10 to $1.15.

UPS’s fuel surcharge, an index-based surcharge that is adjusted monthly, will hold at 1.25 percent for November and December.

UPS said in a statement the rate increases were “adjustments” that were “consistent with those of recent years for daily customers.”
