UPS LOGISTICS EXPANDS INVENTORY PLANNING, PICKS BAXTER SOFTWARE
UPS Supply Chain Solutions, based in Atlanta, said Thursday its UPS Logistics Group has formed a dedicated in-house parts planning unit to expand inventory forecasting capability.
The new unit, called UPS Service Parts Logistics, remains part of UPS Logistics Group. The venture’s services include warehousing, returns, repairs, management of spares inventory, tracking end-to-end parts, and expedited delivery to meet warranty obligations.
“A pre-planned service parts network can tighten post-sales service costs,” said Bob Stoffel, senior vice president and chief operating officer of UPS Service Parts Logistics, UPS Logistics Group. “Our services help customers determine what parts to buy or repair, when to buy or repair them, and where to stock them.”
UPS Logistics has selected Baxter Planning Systems’ Prophet By Baxter software solution, which allows customers to see when and where inventory is moving through the UPS Logistics network. Baxter is based in Austin, Texas.
The new parts services will begin first in the United States and Canada, and then will be extended to Europe and Asia.
