UPS mail business goes global

Postal consolidator UPS Mail Innovations formally announced a new international service for collecting, sorting and delivering mail to postal authorities in other countries as it already does for the U.S. Postal Service.

Under a work share program with the USPS, UPS Mail Innovations and other mail preparers save businesses money by sorting, weighing, bagging, labeling, applying postage and delivering mail downstream in the postal system, close to the final delivery destination.

UPS’s mail business has been providing international mail delivery to other postal authorities since April, when it acquired OMNIsort International Inc. and its New York and California sortation hubs. UPS Mail Innovations continued to serve OMNIsort customers and offered international service during sales calls, but waited on a corporate-wide rollout until integration issues had been ironed out, a UPS spokesman said.

UPS claims its in-transit time for “economy” mail is one to four days faster than regular international mail service.
