UPS names Abney COO
UPS, the world's largest package delivery company and a major logistics player, has promoted David Abney to chief operating officer.
Abney, 51, steps into the role vacated by John Beystehner, who retired last week. He also assumes the presidency of UPS Airlines.
Alan Gershenhorn was named to take Abney's place as president of UPS International, the Atlanta-based company said.
Gershenhorn is serving in Brussels, where he headed the operations of UPS Supply Chain Solutions in Europe, Asia, the Middle East and Africa.
Abney will oversee international operations as well as U.S. package operations, global transportation, labor and all freight activities.
