UPS names Barnes chief information officer

   UPS, the Atlanta-based provider of package delivery and supply chain services, has appointed Dave Barnes chief information officer and senior vice president. He succeeds Ken Lacy, who is retiring.

   Barnes, 48, was vice president of customer and operations application portfolios in UPS's information services division. In his new position, he will join the UPS Management Committee, which directs day-to-day affairs of the company. He joined UPS in 1977 as a part-time package loader.
