UPS SUSPENDS PLANS TO FURLOUGH PILOTS

United Parcel Service said Thursday it has suspended plans to furlough up to 100 pilots, due to UPS pilots' “favorable response to voluntary leave and separation offers.”

Atlanta-based UPS last month said it might have to furlough the pilots as the integrator's fleet modernization plans called for replacing jets requiring three crew members to planes requiring only two.

A total of 36 pilots will separate or leave voluntarily. “That number, when combined with 56 UPS pilots now on active military duty, is sufficient to allow suspension of the furlough plan for the foreseeable future,” said Rick Barr, airlines operations manager for UPS.
