The parcel carrier expects to hire between 90,000 and 95,000 seasonal employees to support the anticipated increase in package volumes during the holidays.
Parcel giant UPS plans to hire between 90,000 and 95,000 additional temporary employees for the holiday season this year, the company said in a statement.
The full-time and part-time seasonal openings, which will run from November 2015 through January 2016 are primarily for package handler, driver and driver-helper positions.
UPS noted that several of its current senior executives entered the company through the seasonal employment program, including CEO David Abney and three other members of the company’s Management Committee.
“It was a way to pay my way through college,” said Abney, whose first position with UPS was loading trucks at night while attending school. “At the time, I had no idea then that I’d be leading the company someday, but I could tell UPS was a place where a solid work ethic was appreciated and there were great opportunities for advancement.”
UPS hired roughly the same number of seasonal workers in 2014, although some of those may have stayed with the company as full-time employees.
