UPS’S ALDEN TO RETIRE; ESKEW NAMED EXECUTIVE VP

   John W. Alden vice chairman and a 35-year veteran of United Parcel
Service, will retire at the end of the year. Michael L. Eskew, senior vice
president of engineering, has been promoted to the newly created position of executive
vice president.
   Alden has served on UPS’s board since 19888 and as vice chairman since
November 1996.
   Eskew will oversee strategic planning, information services and the UPS
Logistics Group while retaining his engineering responsibilities. He was named senior vice
president in 1996 and joined UPS’s board in 1998.
