US AIRWAYS CUTS FLIGHT SCHEDULE

US AIRWAYS CUTS FLIGHT SCHEDULE

US Airways, the seventh-largest U.S. airline, said it will cut capacity 4 percent to offset passenger declines associated with the start of the war in Iraq.

Several major U.S. airlines have announced similar cutbacks in schedules since the war started eight days ago.

The Arlington, Va.-based airline said it would cut select international flights servicing Pittsburgh and Philadelphia during April. Domestic schedule changes are effective April 2 through May 3 and will affect mostly evening flights departing from Pittsburgh and the hub in Charlotte, N.C.

Airline officials said operations were adjusted for off-peak travel periods.

Since Sept. 11, 2001 US Airways has reduced capacity by 28 percent as it tries to work through bankruptcy proceedings.
