USAID adds $2 million in aid to Guatemala

USAID adds $2 million in aid to Guatemala

The U.S. Agency for International Development will provide another $2 million in aid for hurricane-damaged Guatemala.

The aid, which is part of the agency’s Food for Peace Program, will go to Guatemala through the United Nations World Food Program.

The $2 million is in addition to $2 million already provided by USAID for the emergency effort in Guatemala. This $4 million World Food Program contribution will provide 7,260 metric tons of U.S. commodities to help meet the urgent food needs of about 285,000 Guatemalans, the agency said.

In addition, USAID has provided another $5 million in emergency relief aid to Guatemala.

In early October, heavy rainfall associated with Hurricane Stan caused severe flooding and mudslides throughout Guatemala.
