USAID supports transport of medical supplies to Haiti

The U.S. Agency for International Development will provide $50,000 to support the transport and distribution of medical supplies to Haiti.

USAID said the transportation dollars will support the movement of 12 medical kits and three surgical kits, valued at $87,000. Each medical kit is equipped to serve 10,000 people for about three months.

The agency also approved $400,000 for the Pan American Health Organization to buy medical supplies and carry out emergency relief activities in Haiti.

USAID dispatched advisors to Port-au-Prince on Feb. 9 to assist with contingency planning for humanitarian help in Haiti. The country has been crippled by civil strife in recent weeks.
