USDA bans Ya pears from China
The U.S. Department of Agriculture’s Animal and Plant Health Inspection Service has banned future imports of Chinese Ya pears due to a serious fungal disease.
“Ya pears should be removed immediately from store shelves nationwide,” the agency said in a statement. “The recalled fruit should be double bagged, deep frozen for at least 24 hours and destined for disposal in a landfill.”
The fungus, which causes lesions on the fruit skin, poses significant risk to the U.S. apple and pear industries, the agency warned.
