USDA denies trade help to California garlic producers

The U.S. Department of Agriculture’s Foreign Agricultural Service has denied a petition from California’s fresh garlic producers requesting trade assistance.

An investigation determined that domestic producer prices did not decline by more than 20 percent during the period of October 2002-September 2003 when compared to the previous five-year average, a condition required for approving the petition, the agency said.
