USDA IMPOSES IMPORT RESTRICTIONS ON DANISH POULTRY

The U.S. Department of Agriculture’s Animal and Plant Health Inspection Service has imposed import restrictions on Danish poultry, eggs and other game birds to prevent the spread of exotic Newcastle disease.

Danish authorities recently confirmed an outbreak of Newcastle disease. The disease is highly contagious and fatal to many species of birds.

“Exotic Newcastle is so virulent that many birds die without showing any clinical signs,” APHIS said. The disease also kills vaccinated poultry.
