USDA permits imports of six fruits from Thailand
The U.S. Department of Agriculture’s Animal and Plant Health Inspection Service will allow for the importation of six fruits from Thailand under certain conditions.
The fruits are litchi, longan, mango, mangosteen, pineapple and rambutan.
To prevent the introduction of pests into the United States, the USDA requires the fruit to be grown in areas registered and monitored by the national plant protection organization of Thailand. The department also requires the fruit shipments to be irradiated at specified doses and inspected. In addition, the fruit must be accompanied by phytosanitary certificates with a declaration stating that the fruit was irradiated in Thailand.
