USTR APPROVES MADAGASCAR FOR AFRICAN TRADE LEGISLATION BENEFITS
The U.S. Trade Representative said that Madagascar has adopted trade requirements which will allow the country to participate in the benefits of the African Growth and Opportunity Act.
The trade legislation was enacted last year to provide preferential tariff treatment for imports of certain textiles and apparel products from sub-Saharan African countries. To qualify, these countries must adopt an effective visa system and customs procedures to detect and prevent illegal transshipment of textiles and apparel.
Names of countries that qualify for the African Growth and Opportunity Act will be published in the U.S. government’s Federal Register.
