USTR SETS DEADLINE FOR GSP REVIEW SUBMISSIONS

USTR SETS DEADLINE FOR GSP REVIEW SUBMISSIONS

The Office of the U.S. Trade Representative said interested parties and foreign governments have until June 13 to submit petitions for its 2001 review of the Generalized System of Preferences.

GSP provides duty-free treatment to imports of certain products from specified developing countries. Developing countries benefit from GSP by making their products more attractive to U.S. importers.

Petitions must be sent to the USTR’s GSP Subcommittee. They may include additional articles to be considered for GSP status, articles to be withdrawn from the program, and other modifications to GSP.

The GSP program is scheduled to expire on Sept. 30. If the program expires without reauthorization on that date, the USTR will proceed with its 2001 Annual GSP Product and Country Eligibility Practices Review.

For more information about the review, contact the GSP Subcommittee at (202) 395-6971.
