Vancouver operator TSI switches to biodiesel
TSI Terminal Systems Inc., operator of Vanterm and Deltaport terminals in the Canadian port of Vancouver, has switched to using biodiesel in all its equipment and vehicles with diesel engines at both sites.
TSI will now use a blend of biodiesel in 126 diesel engines at Deltaport, using Canadian Bioenergy Corp.’s B20 fuel, a clean-burning, biodegradable, non-toxic fuel containing a 20 percent vegetable oil-based biodiesel blended with diesel fuel. A B20 fuel provided by West Coast Biodiesel will also be used in 101 diesel engines at Vanterm. In addition to the use of biodiesel, exhaust scrubbers have been installed in TSI’s heavy machinery.
TSI said the program will result in a 30 percent reduction in fuel emissions for this year, with the aim for 40 percent less emissions by 2007.
TSI is a wholly-owned subsidiary of Hong Kong-based Orient Overseas (International) Ltd.
