Vessel calls up at Los Angeles-Long Beach despite lack of congestion
The number of vessel calls at the ports of Long Beach and Los Angeles during the peak season months of September-November grew nearly 9 percent this year over last ' from 1,363 in 2004 to 1,485 in 2005 ' the Marine Exchange of Southern California reported Saturday.
Yet the Marine Exchange reported that vessels have been flowing smoothly in and out of the ports during those months, just as they have virtually all of 2005. Containership calls, which account for more than half of all vessels arriving at the ports, rose 9.3 percent during the peak months, from 687 in 2004 to 753 in 2005.
