Virginia Ports handle 1.98 million TEUs
The Virginia Port Authority said state ports handled a record 1.98 million TEUs of containerized cargo in 2005.
The port ended the year with a record fourth quarter. The port's best-ever month was October, when it handled 188,500 TEUs. In November, the port handled 177,712 TEUs, a 16.6 percent increase, and in December it handled 173,022 TEUs, up from 160,470 TEUs handled in December 2004.
Port officials expect continued growth in 2006 and project the port will handle 2.14 million TEUs this year, an increase of 8 percent.
