Wallenius Wilhelmsen names PCTC
Wallenius Wilhelmsen Logistics on Saturday named the 61,321-gross ton Pure Car and Truck Carrier “Topeka” at the Port of Southampton in the United Kingdom.
The U.K.-flagged ship can carry upwards of 6,500 cars and is the fourth in a series of 10 vessels ordered from Mitsubishi Heavy Industries by Wilh. Wilhelmsen, joint owner of Wallenius Wilhelmsen.
Wilh. Wilhelmsen’s newbuilding program comprises 10 vessels, including the remaining six from Mitsubishi, ranging from 6,345 to 8,000 car capacity, with delivery through the end of 2009.
The second Wallenius Wilhelmsen partner, Wallenius Lines, has six vessels on order, five of which will be the world’s largest car carriers with a capacity of 8,000 cars. Designated as Large Car Truck Carriers (LCTC) they will enter Wallenius Wilhelmsen’s network from 2007 to 2009.
