WCO, OLAF share cigarette trafficking data
The World Customs Organization and the European Anti-Fraud Office have agreed to share information about illicit cigarette trafficking.
In the future, there will be a technical option for information related to cigarette seizures in the European Union to be transferred automatically from the OLAF Anti-Fraud Information System to the WCO’s Customs Enforcement Network system.
“This will improve the timeliness of global trend analysis and assist enforcement targeting activity in the WCO’s 162 member countries,” the Brussels-based organization said.
Customs administrations globally reported the seizure of 2.6 billion smuggled cigarettes in 2003.
