WCO wraps up IT development meeting

The World Customs Organization concluded a three-day meeting in Johannesburg, South Africa, on Friday, Oct. 10.

The meeting brought together representatives from customs administrations and private-sector systems developers to discuss challenges and opportunities for improved transborder trade and security through information technology.

The WCO said the meeting also created the opportunity to discuss regional customs cooperation in the IT area, such as the New Partnership for Africa’s Development.

“The more customs will apply these modern practices and demonstrate a culture of service, the more customs will be able to contribute to the economic and social development in addition to fulfilling its mandate for protecting the community, the economy and revenue,” the organization said in a statement.
