WESTWOOD SHIPPING TO BUILD NEW SHIPS
Westwood Shipping Lines said it will replace its fleet with seven new ships for the transpacific trade.
The ships will be specially designed to handle forest products, such as newsprint, pulp and lumber. Westwood also carriers general cargo in hatches or in containers primarily to Japan, Korea and China.
The ships will be about 200 meters long, with a capacity of 40,000 dead weight tons. will be built at Stocznia Gdynia S.A. in Poland. The first ship is scheduled for delivery in the first quarter of 2002.
Westwood is supported in the project by Barber Marine Consultants, a Barber International Ltd. business of Lysaker, Norway; R. S. Platou Shipbrokers AS of Oslo, Norway; and Borgestad ASA of Porsgrunn, Norway.
Cost of building the ships was not disclosed.
