WFP cancels recent food aid deliveries to Burundi
The United Nations World Food Program said it has been unable to deliver food aid to Burundi because of recent fighting between the country’s government and rebel group Forces Nationales des Liberation.
The last time WFP had access to the country was Feb. 19. Most of the food aid must be delivered to Burundi’s Bujumbura province, the region of the heaviest fighting.
Since January, WFP has delivered about 1,150 tons of food aid to Bujumbura, benefiting about 113,400 people. The UN agency delivered more than 70,000 tons of food aid to Burundi in 2003.
