WhereNet forms security group in its transport division
WhereNet Corp., the Santa Clara, Calif.-based technology company that develops equipment location systems for seaports, said Thursday it has created a security group within its growing transportation, distribution and logistics division.
The company said the new group was developed in response to the federal mandates for security within the transportation industry. The newly formed group will work with government officials, national security experts, and strategic partners to develop solution that address security needs 'while still ensuring the continued free flow of trade and efficient port operations.'
WhereNet has installed radio frequency identification (RFID), real-time locating system technology at several marine terminals, and will further leverage that technology by developing additional applications to meet security requirement for marine equipment and cargo. Company officials said the systems 'will greatly enhance transportation security by providing real-time monitoring and reporting capabilities for vessel while and sea and at port.'
WhereNet has worked with companies including BMW, Ford Motor Co.0 and NYK Logistics to reduce inventory, lower operating costs and improve operating efficiencies through the use of new technologies.
