Wind topples APL crane in Dutch Harbor

APL is continuing operations in Dutch Harbor, Alaska, at a terminal operated by Horizon Lines, according to reports from Alaskan newspapers and radio stations.

Winds said to be as high as 125 miles per hour knocked down the container crane at APL’s terminal late Dec 3. Reportedly no one was injured when the crane was knocked to the ground.

The harbor is used by APL’s Pacific Coast Express service, which has a rotation of Los Angeles, Oakland, Dutch Harbor, Yokohama, Pusan, Xingang and Qingdao.

A major seafood export port, Dutch Harbor is called by Maersk and Horizon Lines as well.
