Wine logistics study planned
A 2005 Supreme Court ruling expanded the possibilities for interstate shipment of wine — if a state allows instate vintners to ship direct to consumers, then they have to allow out-of-state business the same right.
Now a new study of the wineries and consumers is planned by MKF Research, a business advisor to the U.S. wine industry, and a company called New Vine Logistics, which specializes in serving the industry.
'Many wineries have experienced considerable growth in the consumer-direct channel since the 2005 ruling, while others are just beginning to incorporate consumer-direct strategies into their business plans,' said Barbara Insel, managing director at MKF. 'We still aren’t sure of its exact size. However, by surveying a representative sample of wineries and customers, we can finally provide the industry with an accurate overall snapshot.'
