World Airways pilots freed to strike after labor talks stall
Pilots for World Airways, a charter passenger and cargo airline based near Atlanta, are expected to go on strike soon after the airline and the International Brotherhood of Teamsters reached an impasse and the National Mediation Board released the two sides from further talks
World claimed that the Teamsters rejected its final offer. The IBT, which represents 430 World Airways pilots, said World has not made reasonable proposals for job security, wage increases, insurance and retirement benefits. The Teamsters have not indicated whether they plan to strike.
Negotiations to update the pilot’s contract have been ongoing for more than two years. Pilots are bound to continue flying airplanes used to service the U.S. military.
Commercial customers that could be affected by any possible strike are EVA Airways, Air Canada, Sonair Servicio Aereo and UPS Supply Chain Solutions’ heavy air freight forwarding business.
