World signs record wet lease with EVA Airways
World Airways said it will provide cargo lift between Taiwan and the United States for EVA Airways under a two-year, $116 million contract, the largest commercial contract in the company’s 57-year history.
World will operate three MD-11F freighters for EVA between Taipei and the United States on a staggered schedule beginning in March.
World has operated one MD-11 on EVA’s behalf from Taipei to Los Angeles and Chicago under a similar, one-year full-service contract. That contract, which runs until March, was valued at $19 million when announced. By comparison, the new contract runs slightly more than $19 million per plane on an annual basis.
Including the World Airways lease, EVA’s operates 12 MD-11F aircraft, the most of any fleet in Asia.
Peachtree City, Ga.-based World also flies passenger and cargo charters for the U.S. military.
