Yang Ming’s net profits jump 19%
Taiwan-based Yang Ming Marine Transport said “continuing high trade demands of the liner shipping industry” helped it raise its net income 19 percent to NT$4.78 billion ($146 million) after the first six months. Yang Ming’s net income for the first half of 2004 was NT$4.01 billion.
Yang Ming’s first half revenue was up 12 percent to NT$39.58 billion ($1.2 billion), from NT$35.32 billion in the same period last year.
The carrier said it carried 1.16 million TEUs in the first half, a 5 percent increase. Yang Ming also said “ocean freight levels are equal to or even higher than those of 2004.”
