YRC’s profits up 21% in 2nd quarter
Overland Park, Kan.-based YRC Worldwide Inc.’s second quarter net income increased 21.2 percent to $92.3 million, compared to $76.1 million in the same quarter last year.
Operating income was up 26.8 percent to $172.3 million from $135.8 million in the second quarter 2005. Revenue improved 22.8 percent to $2.57 billion from $2.09 billion.
The USF companies and New Penn Motor Express are part of YRC Regional Transportation. YRC Worldwide’s other subsidiaries include Yellow Transportation, Roadway, and Meridian IQ.
“We feel good about the progress made during the quarter at all of our business units. We expected to quickly get back on track after the first quarter results and we did. We anticipate a healthy economy and look forward to a solid second half of the year,” said Bill Zollars, YRC’s chairman, president and chief executive officer.
After six months, YRC’s net income was $134.4 million, up 6.7 from 126 million in the first half 2005. Operating income rose 15.2 percent to $260.1 million while revenue jumped 31.1 percent to $4.93 billion.
